Top Resources

  1. Indexes core journal articles, conference proceedings, and other resources in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities, can be used for citation analysis of research. A citation index contains the references cited by the authors of the publications covered by the index. You can use these references to do a cited reference search. This type of search enables you to find works that cite a previously published work.
  2. Covers worldwide literature in geology and earth sciences. Indexes journals in 40 languages as well as books, maps, reports, most U.S. Geological Survey publications, and American and Canadian masters and doctoral theses. Coverage: 1785 to the present.
  3. Citations with abstracts to the worldwide literature (grey literature and published research from 1978) on the Arctic and other cold regions. Produced by the Arctic Institute of North America. Covers a wide range of topics ranging from science to social science and history.
  4. Publications and presentations about the practice and application of Canadian geomorphology. Covers the fields of aeolian, applied, coastal, fluvial, glacial, hillslope, karst, periglacial, permafrost, and offshore geomorphology. Updated only through 2014.
  5. Covers Earth Sciences, primarily mining, materials and energy from 1865 to present. Includes: Bibliographic information, abstracts, plain language summaries, and links to online articles, Geographical Survey Canada publications, National Atlas maps, topographic maps, remote sensing publications, external publications by NRCan scientists and researchers, and other information regarding NRCan programs.

Other Resources

  1. Research data repository run by the British Columbia Research Libraries' Data Services. It contains SFTP access to data files such as Social survey files, DLI data, GIS datasets, and geospatial data.
  2. Multidisciplinary index to academic & popular journals.
  3. The ACM's (Association for Computing Machinery) fulltext journals, conference proceedings, technical reports, and special interest group (SIG) newsletters. Includes technical and social aspects of computing technologies. Access the ACM Online Guide, a comprehensive bibliographic database on computing, via the Advanced Search function.
  4. A collection of GIS data products for Canada. Access to the following GIS data products: CanMap streetfiles -- CanMap route logistics -- Canadian atlas map bundle -- Postal geography -- GeoPinpoint geocoding software -- Shorelined boundaries and census data for Canada.
  5. An extensive collection of bibliographies of books, articles, monographs, reports and theses in physical and human geography, geology, mineralogy, ecology and development studies. The scope is international, dating back to 1980. The interdisciplinary coverage makes it suitable for researching environmental issues.
